NDIS and Music Therapy in 2025: Let’s Keep the Campaign Alive in the Interest of Participant Choice and Control

Thanks to ongoing advocacy by the Australian Music Therapy Association (AMTA), we can share some reassuring news: music therapy services will remain available to NDIS participants while an independent review is conducted. The final decision on funding will be made by March 14, 2025.

At Creative Therapy Adelaide, we are committed to ensuring that our clients continue to access the benefits of music therapy throughout this review period, and we encourage participants to continue their sessions as planned. Music therapy has proven to be a powerful tool for many people, supporting emotional regulation, communication, motor skills, and much more. We want to ensure that it remains accessible to those who need it most.

What We Know About the Independent Review

The review, led by health economist Dr. Stephen Duckett, will examine three key areas:

  1. Pricing: Is the cost of music and art therapy fair compared to other therapies?
  2. Evidence: How effective are music and art therapies in supporting the goals of NDIS participants?
  3. Input: Gathering feedback from participants and therapists on the value and impact of these therapies.

While the review is ongoing, we are committed to keeping our services running without interruption. You can rest assured that we’ll continue to provide the high-quality support that you rely on.

How You Can Get Involved

Now, more than ever, your voice matters. There are several ways you can help ensure the continued funding of music therapy under the NDIS:

  • Sign the Petition: If you haven’t already, please sign and share the petition to keep music therapy as an NDIS-funded service. The more personal stories we can share, the more powerful our collective voice will be. Sign the Petition Here.
  • Spread the Word: Let others in your network know that music therapy services remain funded during the review process, and continue to encourage their participation in the petition.

Our Commitment to You

We understand that waiting for a final decision can be stressful, and we want to reassure you that we are here for you. Our team is:

  • Continuing to provide you with exceptional music therapy services.
  • Keeping you informed with updates as new information becomes available.
  • Advocating for music therapy to remain a core service under the NDIS.

We will also continue to work closely with AMTA to ensure the voices of participants and therapists are heard during the review process. It’s a challenging time, but we remain hopeful that music therapy will continue to be recognised as a vital support for NDIS participants.

Looking Ahead: What 2025 Holds

As we move through 2024 and into 2025, we are optimistic about the future of music therapy within the NDIS framework. Our focus is on ensuring that the decision made in March 2025 reflects the powerful impact music therapy has on participants’ lives.

In the meantime, if you have an NDIS plan review scheduled, we strongly encourage you to request that music therapy be included as a STATED SUPPORT in your next plan. This will ensure continued access to the therapy that is making such a difference in your life.

Thank you for your continued trust and support. We’re here to help you every step of the way and, together, we’ll make sure music therapy continues to hit all the right notes for NDIS participants.
