Speech Therapy Evaluation for Children in Adelaide
Every child communicates differently. Our evaluation helps you understand your child’s speech development, recognise the strengths already in place and decide what support may be helpful next.

A personalised evaluation and practical written summary
The evaluation is adapted to your child’s age, communication style and the reason for the appointment.
A one-hour face-to-face evaluation
- A one-hour appointment with your child and family
- Discussion of your concerns and relevant developmental information
- Observation of your child’s speech, communication, play and interaction
- Age-appropriate speech and communication activities
- Screening or assessment activities where clinically appropriate
Your written evaluation report and summary
- Your child’s existing strengths
- What was observed during the evaluation
- Any speech patterns or areas that may benefit from support or monitoring
- What the findings mean in plain language
- Practical, manageable strategies to try at home
- Recommended next steps, including whether further assessment, monitoring or ongoing speech therapy may be helpful
This includes the one-hour face-to-face appointment and one hour for your speech pathologist to prepare the written report and recommendations.
When an evaluation may be helpful
You may wish to consider an evaluation if your child:
An evaluation may provide reassurance, identify areas to monitor or help you understand whether further support could be useful.
Is not yet using many spoken words or is developing spoken communication differently from what you expected
Uses sounds, words, phrases or sentences that can be difficult for other people to understand
Replaces, leaves out or changes sounds in words
Uses speech sounds inconsistently
Uses jargon or strings of sounds that are difficult to understand
Becomes frustrated when others do not understand them
Has speech concerns and you are unsure whether therapy is needed
Would benefit from clear advice about what to try next
What happens after the evaluation?
Following the appointment, your speech pathologist prepares a written report and summary based on the discussion, observations and information available during the evaluation.
We review the information
Your speech pathologist considers the information you shared and what your child showed during the appointment.
We prepare your written report
The report summarises your child’s strengths, what was observed and what the findings mean in plain language.
You receive practical next steps
Recommendations are tailored to your child and may include home strategies, monitoring, review or further support.
Depending on the findings, recommendations may include:
Simple, playful strategies to try at home
Monitoring your child’s speech development
A review at a later time
Further assessment where appropriate
The aim is not perfect speech or pressured practice. Recommendations are designed to support communication in a way that feels manageable, encouraging and appropriate for your child.
The evaluation does not commit you to ongoing therapy. It gives you clearer information so you can make an informed decision about the next step.
One clear fee for the complete evaluation
The Speech Therapy Evaluation costs $387 and includes both the face-to-face appointment and preparation of your personalised written report.
One-hour face-to-face evaluation appointment
One hour to prepare the written evaluation report and summary
