THE WAY WE DO IT

Speech therapy built around your child

Our speech pathologists use evidence-based support alongside creativity and music when it helps a person feel regulated, engaged and motivated.

Therapy is practical, engaging and responsive to the person in front of us.

Goals and therapy activities are shaped by clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice.

We work collaboratively with individuals, families and support networks to pursue meaningful goals.

We start with what the person can do, then build skills and confidence from there.

CAN WE HELP?

Speech therapy may help when someone is:

If communication, speech, language or participation feels harder than it should, this is a good place to start.

Difficult to understand

Support for speech sounds and clarity so communication can feel easier.

Frustrated when communicating

Helping people express needs, choices, ideas and feelings more confidently.

Finding language hard

Support with understanding language, using words and building sentences.

Stuttering

Therapy for fluency needs, communication confidence and participation.

Using or exploring AAC

Support with communication systems and tools where speech alone is not enough.

Social communication support

Helping communication feel more successful across relationships and settings.

HOW CAN WE BEGIN?

Two ways to start

Some families are looking for clarity about their child’s communication. Others already know they want ongoing speech therapy. Both are welcome.

Start with an assessment

For families looking for a clearer understanding of their child’s speech, language or communication. A speech pathologist will discuss your concerns, use appropriate assessment activities and explain the recommended next steps.

Continue with ongoing therapy

For children with established goals, existing reports or previous speech therapy. We can review the information you already have and confirm whether therapy can continue directly or whether further assessment would be helpful.

Not sure which starting point fits? You do not need to decide before contacting us. Tell us what has been happening and we will help guide the next step.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Practical answers to some of the questions people often have before beginning speech therapy.

How do I know whether speech therapy is the right next step?

You do not need to know for certain before contacting us. Tell us briefly what has been happening and what you would like support with. Our team can help you decide whether speech therapy appears to be an appropriate starting point.

Do I need a referral?

You generally do not need a referral to enquire or access speech therapy as a private or NDIS client. An appropriate referral or treatment plan may be required if you intend to claim an eligible Medicare rebate.

What happens during the first appointment?

Your speech pathologist will take time to understand your concerns, communication needs, strengths and goals. The appointment may include conversation, observation or assessment activities, depending on the person and the reason for attending.

How much does speech therapy cost?

The cost depends on the appointment length, service type and funding arrangement. Our team will explain the expected cost before an appointment is confirmed, so you can make an informed decision.

Can I use NDIS or Medicare funding?

Creative Therapy Adelaide is a registered NDIS provider and also welcomes private clients. Medicare rebates may be available for eligible clients with an appropriate referral or treatment plan. We can help you understand what information may be required.

Will my child need an assessment before starting therapy?

Not always. If you already have recent reports or assessment information, our speech pathologists can review them and discuss the appropriate next step. For some children, an initial speech therapy assessment may be recommended to better understand their communication needs and plan suitable support.

How often will appointments be needed, and how long does therapy take?

There is no single schedule that suits everyone. Appointment frequency and the length of therapy depend on individual goals, needs, progress, availability and circumstances. Your speech pathologist will discuss recommendations with you rather than expecting an open-ended commitment.

Are speech therapy appointments currently available?

Yes, we are currently accepting speech therapy enquiries. Appointment options can vary according to the clinician, preferred time, location and type of support required. Send us a short enquiry and we will check the most suitable options.
